Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman returns to Broadway in The River, a new spellbinding play written by Jez Butterworth and directed by Ian Rickson, the team behind the hit play Jerusalem.
Hugh Jackman plays a isolated fisherman living in a remote cabin on the cliffs high above a river. One night he takes a woman fishing for trouts on a moonless night. Her disappearance sparks a mystery, making way for another woman and suggesting that the fisherman is trying to recapture something from his lost past.
The show is described as erotic, chilling and poetic. By the looks of it The River will become this season’s must-see play.
The opening of The River is set for November 16 at the Circle in the Square Theatre in New York.
